Aishling the Airstream Update No. 048

 Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Williamsburg, VA

From the internsts: "Chickahominy Riverfront Park offers over 70 campsites ranging from basic tent sites to full hookup RV sites. The 140-acre park also features a fishing pier, swimming pool, splash pad, boat ramp, playground, two picnic shelters, a camp store, boat and RV storage, paddlecraft rentals and access to the Virginia Capital Trail. "

Here's our backstory - ha -
While talking / texting with friends prior to international, she alerted us to the fact that it was ending on the Friday of Labor Day weekend - and we discussed the difficulty of finding an overnight stop on the way home.
[Most campgrounds want a 3-4 day stay on holiday weekends...]
We've wanted to see The President Heads in Williamsburg
FOR A WHILE now... and so we thought
"This is the closest we'll be... why not take that short detour - lol"
So we did - we were able to get 2 nights in this local park.
It was a whirlwind...
When we arrived, we immediately went over to the Glass House in Jamestown - just as cool as it was when we were with our boys on their fifth grade trips -
Then we enjoyed a bit of time in historic Williamsburg ...
And y'all know I'm not a history buff,

But Williamsburg really brought history alive for me back in the day -
I STILL love their ball & chain get closures!
We had camping buddies who were heading the same way,
so we met for dinner at Christiana Campbell's Tavern - very cool, a bit pricey, and delicious. We called it our anniversary meals ...
Love seeing the Governor's Palace as we stepped out the door...

It was a nice evening.
The next day we were up early for our time at The President's Heads -
and I really should do a blog post on it because it was SO COOL.
Afterwards we rode the Jamestown Ferry over to Surry
[about a 20 minute ride- and it's free -]

and had a delicious lunch at the Surry Seafood Company.
Yum.
 With beautiful marshland views -
It was a wonderful day to be out and about.

That evening we met up with some more camping buddies that we hadn't really visited with since our Argosy Caravan down the Natchez Trace.
It was good to have a relaxed evening to catch up!
[And y'all know local Italian is always good!]
So - Chickahominy Riverfront Park
We really weren't at the campground much -
Bathrooms were clean -
Cell / Internet was excellent -
Proximity to the things we were  there to see was great.
But omgoodness... the sites were all over the place... and not clearly marked... and people walking through all willy-nilly is something I'm just not used to...
... we *might* stay there again if we're ever in the area...
Who knows...
