that contrasts an Amish Community and
their conflicts with a more progressive Amish community, and also their
relationship with the 'English' world...
All within the guidance of their spiritual leader, Bishop David Stoltzfus,
who takes his responsibilities seriously...
Some favorite quotes - This in regard to concern of members straying from his flock - "It doesn't take long to grow accustomed to the darkness."
And I agree with him - There's a sermon in that sentence!
And when he lost someone he loved, after contemplating the rituals of death. he thought of something a friend said,
" We don't grieve as those who have no hope...
but we do grieve."
And life would go on.
Bishop Stoltzfus has a personal relationship with each member of the community and after a conversation where Micah shared how he waited quietly on a favorite bird to arrive, Bishop Stoltzfus pondered his relationship with God...
Something I think we should all do from time to time...
But of course as sweet romance story, the main focus is on Trudy and Micah
who share a deep
friendship that includes a love of birding -
Even if it takes Micah a while to figure this out...
In this book they are separated by more than distance as Micah
goes to Tennessee to scout for something dear to all of them. . .
Suzanne Woods Fisher once again gives us a good idea of the conflict those in the
Amish Community have with 'modern' medicine ... [in this book the need
for mental health care] and the acceptance of those we love just the way
they are.
Her words draw us in to the community and we have the opportunity to experience living set aside from the world for just a bit...
Note: I was given a copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes.
All opinions are mine.
It's a wonderful book - if you enjoy Amish fictions, you should grab your copy today!
