ALASKA! -- Day 5 - Glacier Bay and Icy Strait Point

Glacier Bay and Icy Strait Point
We woke up in Glacier Bay National Park, with fog so thick we couldn't see the water outside our window -
Had breakfast at The Lido Mkt [the last couple of days - we've had it brought to our room.] It was good, and nice to see the fog lifting as we ate...
And, WOW!!! Another day of exceptional views!
ALL AROUND US!!

And another National Park checked off too!
[super zoom -]

We even had a Park Ranger on board so we could learn 'all the things'
[Seriously nice to have a guide telling us all bout each glacier!]

and we could get a stamp too!
My little book has a few now -

We went up to the bow to view the Marjorie Glacier when they were serving traditional pea soup - hmmm... I didn't give that one a try - ha -
Then we headed back to our balcony once the ship turned...
We saw the Marjorie Glacier -
and also the John Hopkins and Lamplugh Glaciers - amazing!

Then we decided to head to the spa -
Pro Tip - you can pay a bit extra for the use of the warm spa and heated loungers -
A little extra splurge, if you will -
We thought we were getting an indoor hot tub - but there were no benches and very little spray for aching muscles ... but it was really just a warm inside pool...

Our 'package' also included use of the heated loungers -
They varied in temperature from 48* to 70* and were set / unchangeable so you couldn't change them - I liked the lower temperature...
And we'll admit we enjoyed the area A LOT.
A few minutes on the heat was very nice...

Some days I'd just sit there and read a book while I dried in the heat...
Other days it felt luxurious to sit there and watch the glaciers outside our window...
We think it would be totally worth it if we didn't have a window / balcony in our room... but we probably wouldn't pay extra for it again -

We had burgers and fries** -- SO GOOD -- at the Dive In...
Finished off with fruit smoothies -
something I'd JUST discovered was on our drink plan - so deliciuos!!

And I saw my first otter!!!!
I kept thinking I was seeing SO MANY logs floating along the water - but then they would separate and swim!! SO FUN!!

Our afternoon was spent in and out of our balcony [it was COLD y'all]
But I loved watching for otters!

They were too quick to get any great photos -
but it was wonderful to see them! ADORABLE>
and there were lots of seal too!
Then we  dressed for our evening meal at the specialty steak house -
It was fancy - AND DELICIOUS.

We were docking in Icy Strait Point as we finished so we grabbed our coats and headed off the ship - this is a small area with very few things to do [although we found out later that some in our group had an AMAZING whale excursion here -]

We walked by some private houses and this gorgeous cemetery,
then rode the tram over to a little store -

Then walked along the shore back to our dock...
It was comfortable day to be outside...

I have to say I was surprised to see starfish in the water!
If you look closely you'll see A LOT of them - all shapes and sizes!

And some were enjoying resting out of the water too!
Loved the different colors!

So that was an unexpected surprise for us -
and a nice way to end our stay at this stop...

** easily one of the best meals on ship...
