We celebrated in
Salt Springs Recreation Area -
[near Ft. McCoy, Florida]
It is a really beautiful area tucked into the Ocala National Forest -
Chris and Teresa Wilson host a fun event in the area each year and we enjoyed being a part of it with vintage camping buddies we've met these last few years.
I used our new blow-mold Frosty, a lighted palm tree, Santa flamingos,
a pink poinsettia, and that cute flat wreath [woven like a looped rug]
[Still loving our plastic camping rug too, btw.]
We had a relaxing time just hanging out and
riding our scooters all over the camp ground...
And, yes! It was warm enough for shorts and no sleeves!
Chris took everyone out on his pontoonthroughout the afternoon
so we could see the lake, a few alligators [dead and alive!] turtles, and manatees too!
The only problem was - there was SO MANY people enjoying the springs that there were very few manatees to be seen. Still, I *think* I saw one by the shoreline before we got on the boat... hmmm...
We had our traditional new year's meal: pork loin, black eyed peas, corn bread and collard greens - all cooked on the black stone! YUM.
We enjoyed getting up early one morning and going over to the springs...
Seeing the springs bubble up from underneath the surface was pretty cool...
Still, no manatees...
It was beautiful and peaceful when we were the only ones there.
LOL
The grounds are well maintained and the bathrooms are clean.
Internet and cell service was good.
This campground feels like it's in the middle of nowhere... stores and restaurants were a bit of a drive away. Since we were only there for a few days we cooked and ate at the campsite. [One meal was included in our rally fee...]
We enjoyed the event and the campground was nice.
[The barking dog across the way, not so much...]
We would do it again if it works with our schedule.
