Y'all know - I'd rather read a good book than watch a movie any day!
I enjoyed this book SO MUCH...
Maybe it's because I could picture my older aunts
[born around the same time as our main characters]
living this same life as Ellie moved to the beat of her own drum
This book kept me guessing a bit, made me laugh, and yes, even cry as we came to the epilogue since I knew [due to my aunts] the ages of our main characters and the losses they had faced
[.... life always has losses.]
Valerie Fraser Luesse is an excellent author that took me deep into the bayou where Ellie, Raphe, and Heywood share secrets... and also find themselves...
I LOVED IT - there are so many great quotes in here - just a few I want to remember:
"Because Alabama women think making conversation is like making a decent biscuit."
"Where does love end and selfishness begin?"
But my favorite of all is this, "He adjusted the rose on his lapel and sighed....
OH, how I've had this same conversation with so many
of my sweet aunts who have passed on...
There's just something special about reading a book from a southern author who knows my people... but the thing is... people are people wherever they are from... so I'm sure you'll enjoy diving deep beneath the surface and getting to know this community as much as I did -
Note: I was given a copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes - all opinions are my own... and now I'm off to find the rest of Valerie Fraser Luesse's books!
