Gunter Hill
Corps of Engineers Campground
And
the parts I remember: lovely river views and draping Spanish moss were
still there... and the parts Craig remembers: man-eating mosquitoes that attacked you the minute you walked out the door were
still there as well. HA.
Again, this was just a stop-over and not necessarily a destination for us -
As you know, this was my last time to overnight in Montgomery for work -
But let's be clear about this campground -
There are two parts and one, while it has space for campers, is a bit less in cost and so much more woodsy and back-pakerish. Is that a word?
Also, #AnnieLeetheArgosy was the best looking thing around on this side of the campground - and look at her y'all... that's saying something....
You can see the gravel "pad" in this photo vs. the updated photos below.
The other side of the campground, on the other hand, cost just a few dollars more and has level concrete sites. Still has the awesome Spanish moss* [and mosquitoes!] But just feels a little more kept up and safer.
And yes - we moved.
So, except for the 8 foot copperhead the camp host had just shot,
I felt fairly safe here. Ha.
My review: We would definitely stay here again as a stop-over.
It's close to town and the interstate.
Bath houses were clean with separate shower rooms.
Internet was good.
* When we'd 'go to the beach' [almost always Panama City Beach] when I was a kid I always knew we were half-way there when I could see the Spanish moss on the trees. So it's always seemed magical to me...
