when we lived in Mobile I loved driving by the Admiral Semmes Hotel and imagining what it was like in its heyday!
Oh the stories those walls could tell.
I have a vague memory of being at a conference here when I worked in Mobile.
We enjoyed staying in one of the wonderful rooms a few months back
while traveling for work -
I LOVE this light in our room --
Still trying to figure out where I might put a similar one in our home.
[And have wanted a miniature one for the camper for a while now...]
It was completed refurbished in 2014 and is now called The Admiral.
We crazy, we know it -
But we live life!
There's a whole wall with history about Admiral Semmes who died in Mobile in 1877.
You guys know I'm soooo into history - you can read more here -
Still. I did like seeing that while the name had changed
there was still recognition of the original namesake.
LOVE THE ART DECO STYLE!!
It's elegant and classy -
and just fun, y'all!
Lights from above...
And from below in the multi- storied lobby.
Such a treat to stay there!
That night we happened upon
The Taste of Mobile
and we were able to get some last minute tickets,
so we braved the nasty weather and
had a good ole time!
We were very thankful for covered parking at both places!
These cute table decorations [pine cones!] were made by local primary students!
I didn't take photos of everything we ate...
But I'll say there was an awful lot of gumbo and shrimp and grits served up -
A favorite was actually created by the Catering Service for the Convention Center -
A grilled grit cake with one perfectly cooked shrimp and a shot glass of red pepper soup.
It was DELICIOUS.
Also the crab cake served on succotash that was cooked on-site from the Battle House. It was soooo good! And the most surprising thing to me was the salmon ['raw'] on a incredibly thin corn chip with a perfect salsa. [Again, from a catering company - ] SO GOOD.
I had seconds.... okay, thirds.
And I don't even like salmon... or raw...
No photo bc I gobbled them up -
All together a fun evening of trying bites of food from many different places in Mobile!
