Another Christmas Highlight

I so enjoy attending church on Christmas Eve! Our church does a little candle-light and carols service in the early evening [4-5-and 6 p.m. this year] and it's always a wonderful time of quiet reflection on the true reason for Christmas. But our family schedules have been so full that we've missed services these last few years so I was thrilled when my Mom said she'd try and stay up to attend a midnight service in her area. C. had sung at one of the local Episcopal churches in the past and knew the music would be just what I wanted so we [Mom, C, two sons, and me] headed over to the church a little after 10 p.m. So stunningly decorated! [Who knew they made candles this big?!] There was a 30 minute music prelude [wonderful!] and then the service was just as beautiful as the sanctuary. Just really - really nice... focusing on Jesus' birth and His reason for coming to earth. Afterwards we drove around and enjoyed Christmas lights; got in bed a little after 1 a.m. I couldn't help but think that it was nice to stay up late with Mom for something GOOD instead of because of illness. And it's because this little babe was born that we as believers have the assurance that our Good Shepherd will lead us home one day...
