Aishling the AIrstream Update No. 032

January 2025
Gunter Hill COE - Montgomery, AL
and 30A RV Luxury Resort, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida
[while attending The CanOpener Rally ]
Let's see if I can keep this short and succinct.
[Edited to add: Not Happenin']
We really do enjoy staying at Gunter Hill in Montgomery, AL. anytime we're heading south... but have rarely stayed there more than one overnight.
It's clean and neat... mostly level, and has great views of the Alabama River.
I know we'll stay there again and again....

Next Stop: Can Opener Airstream Rally
We've attended CanOpener for several years now and it's just a great time with around 150 ish other airstreamers in on one campground: Top Sail Hill.

And, oh my, we do love Top Sail - but here's the prob - Florida State Law changed  the reservation system for their state parks [Alabama has since done the same -] and out-of-staters have to wait an extra month to reserve...
[our daily beach photos - lol ]
As a result, ALL of the spots for CanOpener were gone within a week -
Taken by Florida airstreamers [YAY for them!]
There's always a bit of 'we're cancelling / grab our spot' about a month out from the event... but we decided early on that we just weren't going to play that game... So we made reservations at the 30A RV Resort - Turns out several of our out-of-state- friends joined us and we turned it into the Pop Top - CanOpener Lite [mini] Rally.

It was our first time at this 'resort' campground -
[We had friends join us for dinner one evening -]
From their website: "Welcome to 30A Luxury RV Resort, where comfort meets elegance. Each amenity is crafted to enhance your stay, blending sophistication with the tranquility of resort living.

Enjoy luxury that speaks for itself. Our upscale assortment of motor coach resort sites offer beautifully landscaped and maintained grounds, with a variety of amenities that will be sure to suit your individual needs."
TWO THINGS we loved about being here:
The Ed Walline Beach access was only about 2.5 miles down hwy 393. - A short drive with plenty of parking and bath houses - and great little spots to eat right across the street - The bike path is not complete from the campground but they appear to be working on it -

And y'all know we love our beaches in Alabama -
but I'm always stunned at just how much prettier the water is in Florida.
It's gorgeous.
There I said it.
We also had this little 'pond' in the campground, across from the club house.
Which brings me to the other thing we LOVED about 30A Resort -
THE CLUB HOUSE.

This was a COLD beach trip, y'all.
And this club house made our Winter Camp fun SO MUCH more enjoyable!
Did we go to the beach daily?
Yes, Yes we did.

But it was much too cold to have our little planned dinner at sunset... or to do much more that take a good walk and photo together...lol -
We enjoyed ALL the activities over at Top Sail Hill -
And I've just decided I need to make that a whole separate post
because it WAS FUN, Y'ALL.
But our little group of old friends - and new - had the best time together -
eating meals together at lots of good spots
 - including Louis Louis and ACME Oyster House.
[Both are on our always return list -]
And two new-to-us places: Dude and Meatballs was the best little spot tucked away in a  disney-like area... [The moo la-la was pretty good too.]
And Shunk Gulley's was right on the beach!
But the club house was the center of our lives during our week of  Winter Camp -
It was central to all of our gatherings, because as beautiful as those sunny days were, it was entirely too cold to hang out outside!
We had a blast, playing cards... games,
puzzles [?!] and domino trains...

And just generally hanging out - watching movies, and ball games...
reading, napping or doing crafts...
And we didn't have to get dressed up to go out in public - lol -
We enjoyed it so much that some of us plan to do it all again next year!
Hopefully we can ride our bikes to the beach!
Because we love The beautiful Gulf Coast water in Florida!
So - 30A Luxury RV Resort - YES. We'll be back there again - EVERYTHING was clean and neat... but I missed the trees, lol. I think it'd be HOT-HOT-HOT in the summer - but they DO have a shuttle to the beach during the summer months.
