Davey Crockett State Park
Lawrenceburg, Tennessee
From Wikipedia: The park is located on Shoal Creek (originally called the Sycamore River) and commemorates the historical activities of famous frontiersman David Crockett in the local area. Crockett settled near the creek bank in 1817 and started a powder mill, grist mill and distillery using the creek's water power. By 1820, he owned 614 acres of land at Shoal Creek. He also served as one of Lawrence County's first commissioners and justices of the peace. After his industrial operations were destroyed by a flood in September 1821, Crockett left the area and moved to West Tennessee .
The park was established in 1959 on 1,100 acres of land that
includes the site where Crockett had his mills and distillery. Park facilities include reconstructions of the mill. A historical museum in the park, open during the summer months, is focused on Crockett's life. A covered bridge built across Shoal Creek in 1959 was destroyed by flooding in 1998 and replaced the following year. A 40-acre lake offers opportunities for fishing and boating.
Visitor facilities include two campgrounds and a restaurant.
We first hosted this vintage camper rally back in 2019
when we filled up the campground with over 50 vintage campers - ALL ADORABLE.
And this year was no exception.
We have a few less campers thee days because you never know what the weather is going to be like in March - and we've had a couple of years where we had to hunker down in the showers to avoid tornadoes...
We can laugh about it NOW.
This year the weather was cool and perfect for camping.
And gathering with friends -
[and I do too most of the time...]
But we had no idea this evening was going to turn into a multi-camper support group. I think my favorite line was when Vic said something along the lines of,
"This is the LAST one... until I find another one."
LOL. It's a sickness, y'all. #IYKYK
This little rally / gathering has a very laid back agenda - usually heavy apptz to share at a meet and greet, coffee provided each morning, maybe a pot luck, an open house, BINGO [of course!!] and pancakes one morning.
Most of each day you're on your own to enjoy the area -
We enjoy riding through the countryside and seeing the beautiful Amish farms.. sometimes stopping to get a fried pie or a basket...
We usually go thrift shopping too -
[But the trails are CRAZY bumpy these days with tree roots...]
And it really was all fun and games
... until I took a tumble and stripped a teeny tiny little wire out of place...
Craig has SO MUCH more patience than I do and he methodically went bit by bit until he found it and repaired it.
#MyHero
In so many ways -
The moon was full and wonderful while we were there - and I won't lie - we're trying to get some sort of 'beauty shot' of #AishlingtheAirstream so we can make some cards...
This might be a contender -
This is a great group of people right here.
I love how camping can bring us all together to visit and enjoy being together, even when we might not see each other for months and months...
I love catching up with old friends and always meeting new friends who may have just caught the vintage camping bug!
See ya down the road!
