Lord Alfred the Airstream Update No. 008

 The Dam General Store Campground
Pawhuska, Oklahoma
We'll get to the campground in just a bit -
But first, let's talk about THE ranch -
Wow - it goes on forever and ever...
And I'll say that I have new-found respect for those who live in such isolated places. I mean, sure , you can drive 45 -60 minutes if you want a 'real' store... But y'all know I'm not a country girl. HA.
But it was beautiful out there - and I was THRILLED to see some of the wild horses they care for! - PDub doesn't talk about this very often these days, but used to share photos of them back in the day - [photo using my super zoom...]

It was cool to see the lodge - side note: I was reading her blog when she was renovating this space, way before the cooking show -
There was a hostess to answer any / all questions... and it was surprisingly uncrowded...

But we suspect the 20+ miles of gravel road
may have deterred some people...lol
Or maybe it was the cows that got loose out of the acres and acres
[and acres!] of pasture -
[We saw Cowboy Josh flying up that gravel road to reign this one in!]
A fun place to visit - - - if you're in the area.
Pawhuska?
Well - let's just say - I'm sure there are many in the area who are thankful for the revitalization provided by the Drummond family.

It is a cowboy town - in the middle of Osage and ranch land...
One small grocery store, a hospital that's smaller than our nursing homes... but a school with state-of-the-art athletic facilities...

Of course we enjoyed visited the Mercantile
with it's cute boutique offerings -

And OF COURSE we ate at the restaurant -
AND IT WAS DEELISH -
I had apps: chicken fingers + olive bread
and there's was more than enough for lunch the next day!

We stopped in for breakfast the next morning before leaving town -
Pancakes with 4 toppings and breakfast nachos - yum!

We also enjoyed visiting the other PW shops - her clothing line [reasonable prices], ice cream shop and pizza place -- we were too full to try any of that.
The hotel lobby was beautiful too.
[There's one other hotel in town... and several little cabins that were called bed and baths - lol.]

There were a couple of specialty shops
and a few thrift shops - and THAT'S IT.
I'm still  not sure where the aliens came from....lol
But I did find some cute earrings in there...
So back to the campground.
Since we were in The B we wanted to stay as close to won as possible, saving an hour or so driving back and forth...

We knew there were only three camp spots [and three yurts -- with no bath facilities!] Surprised to find it was not much more than gravel pads with electrical hook-ups off the side of a main road... bathroom facilities were maybe a half mile down the road and only available when the store is open [7am-10pm - lol]

The yurts were just down the path from us and someone did come in and stay in one of those overnight... with no bathroom...
After dinner, we settled in and I read a bit while Craig watched TV -
YES - we love technology.
And btw - #LordAlfredtheAirstream was SO EASY to travel in since we had water and bath facilities on board.
We had originally scheduled to stay two nights here, but realized we'd seen / done all we wanted in Pawhuska... so we continued our adventure to another area of Oklahoma the next morning!
#HardwickAdventures
My take: This campground was good for an overnight.
Excellent cell service -
Bathrooms / showers were open to the general store public and up the road a piece...
