Annie Lee the Argosy Update No. 024

 The Hideaway Camping Retreat
Navarre, Florida
After the Tin Can Tourist event we wanted to have a couple of days to ourselves with time on the water...so Craig found this wonderful [small] campground on the Santa Rosa Sound.
I love the 'Old Florida' feel of it all!

Each campsite is tucked in between oak and magnolia trees,

and many have views of the water...

We didn't realize how much we would enjoy the small decks that each site has, but it was wonderful to enjoy a little time outside without having our feet in the sandy soil. Our screen room fit around our deck nicely and since the weather was gorgeous, we spent much of our time out there. [And we did it comfortably due to that little gadget [thermo-cell] that kept the skeeters away!] {And, no those are not skeeter bites on my legs - I'd just been to my skin doc the week before...TMI, I know...}

So. Let's talk a minute about the campground - if you look at the website it shows beautiful sites with Spanish moss hanging from the trees [and y'all KNOW I love the look of Spanish moss!]But, alas - [hurricane] Sally made an unexpected visit the week or so before us - so nary a drop of moss was still in those trees...
The area above their beach was also washed out - but they plan to restore it with a wider beach once it's all cleaned up. [The posts with towels on them shows the original fence line.] They also lost a set of stairs, and maybe a deck above the shore line as well. But Gulf Coast residents are resilient and I have no doubt
The Hideaway will come back better and stronger!
The Santa Rosa Sound was lovely and there were several campers relaxing on floats, kayaking, and fishing from the private beach...
We enjoyed waking up to this view each morning...

The bath houses were clean and cute -

with vintage, shabby chic charm...
The showers were cozy and private [with rain showers installed.]

We had lazy mornings with breakfast out on the deck before driving over to Navarre Beach, just a short distance away...
[or up to Fort Walton to do some thrifting...]

But, wow, there were plenty of shells washing up on the beach
[and we just kept going back],
compliments to Sally, I'm sure...
Again - isn't Florida's water sooooo pretty!

And waves, glorious waves, that we both enjoyed with our 'old school' floats [which I like the best because I can sit on it like a bike, or lie down and catch some rays...]
We were usually back to the campground in time to catch the gorgeous sunset from our campsite... if you look closely [to the left] you can see the lights from Navarre...
We sat outside and read and listened to the night sounds from our little deck area [again - thanks to the THERMO-CELL,]before going to bed.
Side note: have we ever shared how soundly we sleep in this camper? Maybe it's the double twins, but we think it's the complete darkness we have when tucked away in the bed area.

My review: We will definitely be back.
We like to quiet, not-so-touristy feel of Navarre... and LOVE the vintage Florida vibe of the Hideaway Retreat. They do not have a pool, but have a great common area with swings, outdoor games, and community fire pit.
It's a cool place -
You should check it out....
