Let's talk about our bedroom [area] in
#AnnieLeetheArgosy !
First of all - I can't emphasize enough how much we are enjoying the twin beds where we aren't so squished together and one [or the other] can get in / out of bed without disturbing each other. [This photo was taken the first night we spend in Annie Lee - IN A STRANGER'S YARD... with my own bedding -]
This is the 'before' photo that was on the for sale listing.
And , as a reminder, this is the fabric we're using... I didn't match it myself as it is from the same manufacture and was paired at the upholstery shop where I bought it. But if you haven't guessed by now I'm quirky and I love to mix patterns... so let's go - lol...
Oh. Another quick before that shows the nasty [what I believe to be] fiberglass curtains- over 40 years of nasty... just sayin'...
And those little side pieces under the window? You'll notice that we got those off and recovered them in some white / gray contact paper...
Let's start with the curtains... After working with what seemed like a thousand pleats, I made a declaration that there would be NO PLEATS in these.
But it wasn't until I started the actual cutting / sewing that I realized that I was going to need to MATCH THE PATTERN. ha
[I know it's not EXACT - but the line flows as they are on the widow -
thank goodness I didn't chose a plaid - ha.]
I had a little help with these... and again did a lot of measuring [MEASURING] before I made the first cut. I didn't take any photos, but it was basically the same process as the front window [minus the pleats!] as I hemmed them up then placed the sliders with elastic pulls every 4 inches or so...
I think I used about 30 yards of elastic on these curtains [total] -
not even kidding... glad JoAnn's sells it by the yard...
After they were finished they were fairly easy to slide back on the top and bottom rails. [I really like that bottom rail that keeps them from floating open or in your way -] Craig secured the 'opening' with a small screw so we can easily get them out to clean as needed.
We decided early on that we wanted to keep Annie Lee pretty close to her original look... so that meant NO PAINTING like we did in #LottieScotty... and I'll be honest... all that brown is not a favorite of mine,
so I'm LOVING these great big window coverings.
We both agreed that a nice 70s looking wall paper might look nice on the back wall of the bed area - we thought it would add a punch of color that could be seen from the front area, but not be overwhelming...
I did a fair amount of 'shopping' through the internets and finally found this "Yellow Vintage Floral" peel and stick wallpaper by Drew Barrymore Flower Home @ Walmart. And y'all know I love it. Annie Lee is a child of the 70s - flower power and all that, but I wanted to keep it somewhat traditional...
And this kind of, sort of reminds me of wallpaper in photos from our
Chattanooga house when I was two...
The background is off-white enough to blend with the side walls
and the oranges and yellows of the flowers work with the wood tones and yellows in the kitchen area.
And I love mixing all those patterns together!
My concerns: we used peel and stick on Lottie and the seams pulled apart in the [cool temps of] winter... so I'm hoping to avoid that since it wasn't 88* when we put this up... also, I cheated a little and overlapped the seams a tiny bit...
You'd have to look VERY closely to see that...
And lastly - I think I'm going to have to break down and purchase some more so I can cover the bathroom door and have a completely floral wall when it's closed...
I know if I don't, I'll always wish I did.
Ha.
Bathroom is next y'all!
And Craig's been working hard on it!
