Ten on Tuesday

  1. Let's start with a cozy kitten to share with you - Look at those paws! That's our Pauly! Polydactal, almost a year old now, and such a sweetheart.
  2. Did a little yard work this week - just regular stuff - the garden is still doing well. Cannot wait until I can harvest basil!
  3. Got a manicure this week - first one in months and my hands were one hot mess. The harsh winter weather and my new found love of mixed media had taken its toll.
  4. But I love painting 'my girls' -even with surgical gloves to protect the manicure until Easter. Love how each one turns out differently since there's no rhyme or reason as I go about creating them.
  5. We started the weekend with a concert [and preachin'] with Jason Crabb on Good Friday at Fayetteville Church of God. Such a treat.
  6. I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend! We had a great time with our mothers - sunrise service at 6 a.m. with one and worship with the other at 10:45 and then on to family activities.
  7. And a trip to see my mom's neighbor [he used to be mine too :)] in the hospital. PLEASE pray for Max and his family - the girls have come in from out of state to be with him...
  8. No egg hunts or traditional four layered multi-colored Easter cake for us - and I kinda missed it. But! Sister brought Shipley's Donuts so that made up for it. Yum.
  9. Enjoyed shopping at a new little boutique shop - Nellie Mae's - earlier in the week and loved their ladder chandelier! So fun! And they designed it themselves. Love it.
  10. And finally! The crappie are biting and hubs is one happy camper!

Ten on Tuesday

  1. A bit of traveling to one of my least favorite cities - no favorite shops or places to eat so I ate hotdogs [free] at the hotel. With chips and carrot sticks, not bad.
  2. Speaking of hotdogs - the hotdog man is back on 'the square' outside my office. [Do people outside of the south even know what 'the square' is?]
  3. Random thought: I'm very glad I have a flexible job.
  4. Taxes: done. Check: written. So sad to see one dependent missing - but happy to know that he's self-sufficient and doing okay.
  5. We had another bout of storms this week - loving how radar has advanced to the point of knowing exactly where rotation might be [but we know they can still dip down out of no where...]
  6. Praying for families that lost loved ones and homes.
  7. But the rain has been good - and YES! We have tomatoes! I'll admit I bought this [cherry] tomato plant with blooms on it - but the others now have blooms as well!
  8. Enjoyed having youngest and friend home.
  9. Family time = precious memories.
  10. And finally! We had a sunny day all together to take family photos at the turquoise fence in our neighborhood.

Ten on Tuesday

albeit, a little late ---
  1. Well, Hello Summer! – I was hoping for a few more weeks of Spring, but when it’s 82* at 10 a.m. you gotta give up that thought…
  2. It was a long week with my sweetie on his annual fishing retreat with guys that have been getting together for over 30 years!
  3. My phone died this week [the bottom half of the screen was flashing and going black.] So not good when I’m right in the middle of a good book… they’ve sent the replacement and all is well again [well almost, I’m still getting the Kindle account set up…]
  4. Had the “opportunity” to sit in on a court hearing for an adult protective placement one morning this week. Wow – it’s been over ten years since I’ve done this. Very interesting [and involved case – the reason I was there.] It all turned out well.
  5. You know I love thrift store shopping! So, I have to share that I stopped in at a HUGE one and found another summer dress and a couple of cute purses for less than $10 - TOTAL. Yippee. This purse is so fun & in my new favorite color.
  6. I also took a car load of stuff to Goodwill… it’s all about giving up the stuff we don’t use to bring in stuff we will…
  7. I transplanted day lilies this week – tiger lilies, really, that came from my Mom’s ‘old home place’ [not my grandmother’s house.] Which reminds me – I have a few rose plantings from [our] Mama’s house if anyone wants them.
  8. I’ve started the ‘She Art’ Class with Christy Tomlinson. So fun and kind of pushing me out of my comfort zone to achieve the look we want. Her videos are SO GREAT and easy to follow. I encourage you to give her classes a try if you want to do more with mixed media.
  9. I also painted a poppy at My Spirited Art [dotcom] with my friend Rita. It’s much like Sip N Strokes, if there’s one near you – where a bunch of people get together and paint the same thing – SO FUN. There were over 50 people in our class and I love how everyone put their own spin on it – I actually took some old hymn pages and gesso’d them on before we got started. You can’t see it in the photo but it shows through nicely under the poppy and on parts of the edges…
  10. And lastly, this Ten on Tuesday was posted late because I worked out of town this week and completely forgot to take my trusty purple laptop along with me. It was weird, but at least I was still ‘somewhat’ connected with my phone…

Faith Based Pages

April Challenge -
No sketch this month; just a few simple guidelines with a
combination of new and old: Use a banner, eyelets, fabric flower, and journal tags / cards. Be sure to include at least one photo and a favorite scripture. And, as always, leave a comment here and let me know where I can see your take on our challenge!

Mama Moland's House

Our grandmother's house is for sale... I hear it's "falling apart." Soooo, I'm hoping that if it's torn down I can at least get some wood from it to make a book shelf for my craft area... For now, let me share some random memories from a scrapbook layout I did a few years back [but keep in mind that these are *my* memories and I'm one of the youngest of 50+ grandchildren, I'm sure others will have different things that come to mind]...memories... taking off the window screen and playing 'store' on the back porch... helping feed clothing through the wringer washing machine... gathering eggs in the hen house... the musky smell of the smoke house - used for storing coal... cousins, always, everywhere... cutting down tiny little cedar trees for Christmas and stringing popcorn to hang on them... making cucumber dolls with her buttons when the cukes had grown too big... catching crawdads in the branch... the smell of coal heat in the winter, and later having the gas heater... learning to sew on her pedal sewing machine... sitting on the porch and swatting fly-after-fly... smelling the pig farm not far away... going to the outhouse and being thrilled when she got an inside bathroom... playing in the cemetery across the street and getting into stinging nettle and later rubbing witch hazel on it for relief... catching fireflies in glass jars and tucking them under our bed in the 'back bedroom' at night... going to the cellar during a storm... telling ghost stories by the light of a kerosene lamp... having 'the uncles' tie strings to june bugs to entertain us... seeing Ms Bessie walking up the street with a big stick and hoping she wouldn't turn our way... smelling sweet avon fragrances... avoiding the neighbor's scrawny dogs... going over the creaky wooden bridge to get to the house... eating popcorn and watching Dark Shadows...walking to the store on country roads, running through the pasture and hoping the bull wouldn't chase us... seeing newborn twin calves...teacakes ad biscuits with eagle brand syrup... hollyhocks and zinnias...the big cedar tree... feeling safe and secure... these are a few of my favorite things - and I still have good comforting dreams of her home today.

Ten on Tuesday

  1. Another busy week at work – had a last minute opportunity to go to the Alabama Gerontological Society Conference and was able to hear [the real] Patch Adams – very interesting… [Not a fan.]
  2. Since I didn’t want to stay overnight that meant driving 2 hours back and forth each day – still, worth it to be home with my sweetie.
  3. Had a special ‘gift’ when a sweet little girl said my name for the first time – ever! It made me happy. [I cried to see the progress she’s making.]
  4. Beautiful weekend weather! Lots of things blooming around our yard this time of year – dogwoods, iris, violets, and azaleas. Love it.
  5. Craig had some time with his mother and fished in a tournament with a new partner on Saturday,
  6. Drew enjoyed a mud hole in his jeep with some friends,
  7. And I went to my regular monthly crop. I made ‘Cowboy Caviar’ and it was quickly eaten [easy- peasy: drain & rinse a can of shoe-peg corn and a can of black-eyed peas, add a can of ro-tel tomatoes to the colander [don’t rinse.] Stir in 1/ 2 chopped green pepper, a few chopped scallions, some garlic and cumin, salt to preference. Serve with fritos scoops. Yum.
  8. It was SO COLD in the room we crop in that I could barley think and only completed 2 pages…
  9. So I left early and picked up some vegetable plants and went to work in my sunny garden for the rest of the afternoon.
  10. I also did a little thrift store shopping and found a couple of summer dresses that look brand new [one Cold Water Creek and the other, JG Hook] for about $5.00 each – can’t beat that.

"But a little about magic -
[If we look for it] there it is , there it can be,
in so many moments of our lives.
[And] I don't want to miss out on any of it.
So, I pay attention, I wait, and
I watch closely for it.
Discovering...
I talk about it when I see it...
When I feel it...
because,
I. Live. For. It."

Favorite Photo Friday

Here's a little photo taken in 1977 with
my cool 110 instamatic camera with
built-in flash and everything![My brother - 4 years old - I was a senior in high school.]
I scanned the negative and
then shopped it up a bit with picnik to have some fun.
